The 2027 Social Security payment calendar gives beneficiaries a clear way to determine when their benefits are scheduled to arrive. For many recipients, the date depends on their birthday. However, people who receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), receive both SSI and Social Security, or began receiving Social Security before May 1997 may follow different schedules.
The timing can also change when a scheduled payment falls on a weekend or federal holiday. In those cases, the Social Security Administration (SSA) generally moves the payment to the preceding business day.
Knowing which payment schedule applies to you can make the calendar easier to follow and help with monthly financial planning.
Schedule
For people who started receiving Social Security on or after May 1, 1997, retirement, survivors and disability benefits are generally paid according to the beneficiary’s date of birth.
The three birthday groups are:
- 1st-10th: Second Wednesday
- 11th-20th: Third Wednesday
- 21st-31st: Fourth Wednesday
The 2027 schedule is:
| Month | 1st-10th | 11th-20th | 21st-31st |
|---|---|---|---|
| January | Jan. 13 | Jan. 20 | Jan. 27 |
| February | Feb. 10 | Feb. 17 | Feb. 24 |
| March | Mar. 10 | Mar. 17 | Mar. 24 |
| April | Apr. 14 | Apr. 21 | Apr. 28 |
| May | May 12 | May 19 | May 26 |
| June | June 9 | June 16 | June 23 |
| July | July 14 | July 21 | July 28 |
| August | Aug. 11 | Aug. 18 | Aug. 25 |
| September | Sept. 8 | Sept. 15 | Sept. 22 |
| October | Oct. 13 | Oct. 20 | Oct. 27 |
| November | Nov. 10 | Nov. 17 | Nov. 24 |
| December | Dec. 8 | Dec. 15 | Dec. 22 |
The official SSA payment schedule provides the calendar used for Social Security and SSI payments. Once you know your birthday group, you can generally follow the same column throughout the year.
Older Claims
Not every Social Security beneficiary follows the Wednesday schedule.
People who began receiving Social Security before May 1997 generally receive their Social Security payment on the third day of the month. A different arrangement can apply to people who receive both Social Security and SSI.
When the scheduled payment date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the SSA generally issues the payment on the preceding business day.
For 2027, the applicable dates are:
| Month | Payment date |
|---|---|
| January | Dec. 31, 2026 |
| February | Feb. 3 |
| March | Mar. 3 |
| April | Apr. 2 |
| May | May 3 |
| June | June 3 |
| July | July 2 |
| August | Aug. 3 |
| September | Sept. 3 |
| October | Oct. 1 |
| November | Nov. 3 |
| December | Dec. 3 |
The January 2027 payment is an example of how the schedule can cross calendar years. Because Jan. 3, 2027, falls on a Sunday, the payment is moved to Friday, Dec. 31, 2026.
Beneficiaries can also consult the SSA’s Social Security benefits payment information for guidance on managing and reviewing their benefits.
SSI
SSI follows a separate payment schedule. Benefits are generally scheduled for the first day of the month. If that date falls on a weekend or federal holiday, the payment is generally moved to the preceding business day.
The 2027 SSI schedule includes:
| Benefit month | Payment date |
|---|---|
| January 2027 | Dec. 31, 2026 |
| February | Feb. 1 |
| March | Mar. 1 |
| April | Apr. 1 |
| May | Apr. 30 |
| June | June 1 |
| July | July 1 |
| August | July 30 |
| September | Sept. 1 |
| October | Oct. 1 |
| November | Nov. 1 |
| December | Dec. 1 |
| January 2028 | Dec. 30, 2027 |
This creates several instances in which an SSI payment arrives during the previous calendar month.
For example, the January 2027 SSI payment is scheduled for Dec. 31, 2026. Likewise, the January 2028 SSI payment is scheduled for Dec. 30, 2027.
These payments are not additional benefits. They are the regular benefits being issued earlier because the normal payment date is not a business day.
The SSA’s official SSI page provides information about Supplemental Security Income eligibility, payments and related services.
Early
An early payment can be confusing when looking at a bank statement because the deposit may appear in a different calendar month from the benefit month.
For budgeting purposes, it is important to distinguish the payment date from the benefit month. If an SSI payment for January arrives on Dec. 31, it remains the January benefit even though the money reaches the recipient’s account in December.
The same principle applies when Social Security payments are moved because of weekends or federal holidays.
Bank processing can also influence the time at which money becomes available. The SSA establishes the scheduled payment date, while individual financial institutions may have their own procedures for making funds available.
If a scheduled payment does not arrive when expected, beneficiaries should first check the payment information associated with their account and then contact their financial institution or the SSA when appropriate.
Planning
For most Social Security beneficiaries on the Wednesday schedule, planning for 2027 is relatively straightforward. Identify the birthday range that applies to you and then use the corresponding Wednesday column.
Those receiving SSI, both SSI and Social Security, or Social Security under the older payment arrangement should use the separate schedule.
The payment date also does not determine the amount of a person’s benefit. Benefit amounts can depend on factors such as earnings history, benefit type and individual circumstances.
Beneficiaries can use their my Social Security account to access personalized information and manage certain aspects of their benefits. The online service also provides access to various Social Security records and documents.
The 2027 calendar is therefore best viewed as a planning reference. The key question is not simply when Social Security is paid, but which payment rule applies to your particular benefit. Once that is established, the dates become much easier to track, including the occasions when a payment appears earlier than expected.
